“No one around us still believes in [the possibility of winning] the Polish Championship. But we, deep inside, still believe. However, we aren’t looking at Raków Częstochowa; we focus on ourselves; we want to win. We will see where that gets us,” explained Lech’s midfielder, Radosław Murawski.
Lech Poznań had a good run of three league wins in a row. If they were to win all of the remaining PKO BP Ekstraklasa games, they’d extend the series to 8 matches – only one short of the club record. Unfortunately, Niels Frederiksen’s squad tripped in Radom, in the clash with Radomiak (2:2), and lost two important league points, despite winning 2:0 before halftime.
“It’s not easy to win eight games in a row, but that’s the target we set for ourselves earlier. We knew it’d be challenging, but the fourth win on Sunday should have become a fact. The way we let the two points slip hurts a lot. When the score is 2:0, you should win three points, whereas we let them go unnecessarily,” emphasised Radosław Murawski.
Lech’s midfielder also referred to the fight for the Polish Championship. Currently, the team from Poznań is ranked second, two points behind the leaders, Raków Częstochowa. Prior to the last PKO BP Ekstraklasa round, the two squads had the same number of points in their account. Now, Raków has increased their advantage, which means that Lech needs their rival to lose a league game, as opposed to a draw being enough for Niels Frederiksen to have a shot at the title.
“No one around us still believes in [the possibility of winning] the Polish Championship. But we, deep inside, still believe. However, we aren’t looking at Raków Częstochowa; we focus on ourselves; we want to win. We will see where that gets us. Anyway, we are not giving up yet; we want to win 12 points and then see what the table looks like once we have done so,” highlighted Murawski.
About the Sunday clash with Radomiak, the midfielder added, “It’s impossible to describe with words what happened in the second half. It’s a difficult one because, from my perspective, coming back [for the second half] with a 2:0 score, we should have held onto the possession and calmly looked for scoring chances. But it turned out to be the exact opposite. These are the kind of games you ought to win even when things don’t go according to plan. In the first half, we waited for chances and we converted two of them. It’s a pity we failed to do so in the second half.”
