“We wouldn’t swap our position in the table or our situation for anyone else’s. Everything is in our own hands, and our fate depends entirely on us. We’ll do everything we can to win the next match,” said Lech’s coach, Niels Frederiksen, shortly after the recent league clash with Arka Gdynia. His players struck a similar tone, heading into the final stretch of the season full of belief in their own ability.
Despite dominating both in possession and in the statistics, the reigning Polish Champions were held to a draw by relegation-threatened Arka Gdynia in the league clash last Friday. The result gave second-placed Górnik Zabrze the chance to close the gap to the squad from Poznań, but the Silesian side lost at home to Zagłębie Lubin the following day, meaning Lech’s advantage grew to seven points after the weekend. They hold the same point difference over Raków Częstochowa and Jagiellonia Białystok, although all three of Lech’s closest rivals will play their postponed fixtures on Wednesday.
“We wanted all three points, and we could have done more to get them, so there was disappointment and frustration in the dressing room after the match,” admitted Lech’s keeper Bartosz Mrozek on Friday evening. However, neither he nor his teammates intend to dwell on the setback against the side from Gdynia, as fellow player Patrik Wålemark explained after the game.
“If we show our best level in the final two matches of the season, it’ll be extremely difficult for anyone to stop us. We’ll approach the games fully focused on each task ahead, and everything is in our own hands,” emphasised the Swedish winger.
Coach Niels Frederiksen echoed that message during his post-match press conference. The Dane highlighted that his side depends only on themselves and can now focus fully on winning their upcoming clash with Radomiak as they aim to win the club’s tenth league title.
“We knew the run-in would be incredibly difficult, and that’s exactly why winning the title demands top performances. But I wouldn’t trade our position in the table or our situation with anyone else. Our fate is entirely in our own hands, and we’ll do everything possible to win three points next Saturday,” explained the coach.
If his side beats Radomiak, they will secure the Polish Championship title regardless of their opponents’ results.
