Two Lech Poznań players took part in Poland’s second match at the UEFA European U-21 Championship. The Poles lost 0–5 to Portugal. Michał Gurgul and Filip Szymczak both started the game.
Poland began the 25th edition of the U-21 EURO with a 1–2 loss to Georgia, and to keep their hopes of advancing to the next stage alive, they needed to win against Portugal on Saturday evening. Unfortunately, their opponent dominated the match, and Poland went into halftime with four conceded goals. In the second half, Portugal found the back of the net once more, ending the game with a 5–0 victory.
As a result, Poland lost their chance to progress from the group stage. They have just one match left at the EURO – on Tuesday, June 17th, at 6:00 PM, they will face France.
Returning briefly to Saturday’s game, two Lech players appeared on the field - Michał Gurgul and Filip Szymczak both started the match in Trenčín. Gurgul, for whom it was a debut for the U-21 squad, was substituted in the 56th minute by Łukasz Bejger.
Meanwhile, the third Lech Poznań player who received a call-up for the tournament, Antoni Kozubal, remained on the bench for the entire match.
