Twenty-two Lech Poznań players have left for the September international break. Bartosz Mrozek, Gisli Thordarson, Luis Palma, and Timothy Ouma will fight for a spot at the 2026 World Cup.
Bartosz Mrozek has once again impressed the current Poland national team manager. Lech's first-choice goalkeeper has been regularly called up to the Polish senior squad, but he is still waiting for his debut. In September, the white-and-red team will play two World Cup qualifiers - Jan Urban’s side will first face the Netherlands away, followed by a home match against Finland in Chorzów. After three rounds, Poland sit third in their group, with six points in their account.
Gisli Thordarson has received his first-ever call-up to the senior Icelandic squad. Iceland begin their World Cup qualifying campaign at home against Azerbaijan. A real test awaits Arnar Gunnlaugsson’s team a few days later when they travel to Parc des Princes to take on France. Honduras are also entering the decisive phase of qualification, having won their group. Luis Palma will have the chance to face Haiti and Nicaragua.
Meanwhile, after nearly six months away, Timothy Ouma returns to the Kenyan national team. Similar to his teammates from Lech Poznań, he will compete in World Cup qualifiers. However, his team has slim chances of success after the six rounds and will face the bottom two teams in the group - Gambia and the Seychelles.
In the meantime, the Poland U-21 team are kicking off their European Championship qualifiers. The Polish squad will play their first match in Cracow against North Macedonia and then one in Yerevan against Armenia. Coach Jerzy Brzęczek has called up Antoni Kozubal and Michał Gurgul for the two qualifier clashes. Meanwhile, Kornel Lisman and Bartłomiej Barański are vying for a place in the Elite League U-20 clash with Portugal after being invited to a preliminary training camp. The final squad will be announced on Wednesday.
The Poland U-19 team, led by coach Łukasz Sosin, have travelled to Slovenia for a friendly tournament. They will play the hosts, the Faroe Islands, and Azerbaijan. Kamil Jakóbczyk and Wojciech Mońka will have the opportunity to showcase their talents. The Poland U-18 squad will also play three friendlies - against the United Arab Emirates, Belgium, and South Korea in Croatia. Wojciech Szymczak, Karol Delikat, Sammy Dudek, Tymoteusz Gmur, and Eryk Śledziński have all been called up.
Moreover, five Lech youth players will participate in the prestigious Syrenka Cup - Aleksander Klimkiewicz, Hubert Janyszka, Patryk Prajsnar, Hubert Smyrak, and Piotr Bartczak will take on Albania, Romania, and Norway. Meanwhile, Jędrzej Jaroszewski and Jakub Szuba have travelled to Jarocin for a three-day Poland U-15 training camp.
