Lech Poznań - Pogoń Szczecin 2:2

Lech’s first league game following the international break was an emotional rollercoaster. Niels Frederiksen’s squad ended up sharing points with Pogoń Szczecin in a home match that ended in a 2:2 tie.

The clash with Pogoń Szczecin kicked off a month-long marathon of games every three days - the team from the seaside game to Poznań under the lead of a new coach. Thomas Thomasberg is no stranger to Niels Frederiksen, as the two coaches used to face each other regularly in the Danish top division.

Lech began the match very well, and it didn’t take them long to dominate their opponent. The high intensity at which the hosts played seemed too much for Pogoń Szczecin. However, Lech lacked precision and accuracy, and the wasted goal-scoring opportunities soon took revenge on Frederiksen’s team – in the 15th minute, Kamil Grosicki surprisingly changed the score to 1:0 for Pogoń. The conceded goal was a motivational boost for Lech, and they focused on equalising as soon as possible, but Valentin Cojocaru intervened impressively and stopped the hosts from scoring a few times.

Early in the second half, Lech got what they wanted. Luis Palma sent a beautiful cross from the left flank, right onto Mikael Ishak’s foot, and the Swedish captain effortlessly tapped the ball into the net. Not long later, the Hondurian scored an impressive goal; however, this time, the replays revealed an offside. Lech didn’t want to waste time and returned to work immediately, putting even more pressure on Pogoń’s defensive line. Shortly before the 90-minute mark, Leo Bengtsson converted a one-on-one situation into what seemed to be a winner. However, to everyone’s surprise, two minutes later, the scoreboard once again showed a draw - Paul Mukairu equalised and got his team an important league point.
