Afonso Sousa is leaving Lech Poznań. The Portuguese midfielder is moving on a permanent transfer to Turkish club Samsunspor.
After the clubs had reached an agreement regarding the transfer, the 25-year-old flew to Turkey for medical tests. He was given a green light from the medical team, and shortly afterwards, he signed a contract with Samsunspor.
Sousa joined Lech in the summer of 2022, just after the club won the Polish Championship title. He made his debut on July 9th, 2022, in the Polish Super Cup clash against Raków Częstochowa (0:2). Over the past three years, he has played 91 matches in the blue-and-white colours, scoring 20 goals and providing 11 assists. In his first year, he reached the quarterfinals of the UEFA Europa Conference League with the club and even scored a goal in the second leg of the memorable clash with Fiorentina (3:2).
Sousa’s best season at Lech Poznań was the championship-winning 2024/2025 campaign, during which the attacking midfielder was one of the team’s key players. In 31 league matches that season, he scored 13 goals and added 6 assists. At the PKO BP Ekstraklasa Gala concluding the season, he was named the best midfielder of the campaign. Now, his time at Lech comes to an end.
Afonso, thank you for three years at Bułgarska Street! We wish you the best of luck in your future career.
