Lech Poznań - Piast Gliwice 3:0

Following their win against Wieczysta Kraków in the previous round, Niels Frederiksen’s side continued their unbeaten run, which now stands at twelve matches. Alongside their domestic campaign, the team from Poznań is also competing in Europe. Just a few days before the clash with Piast Gliwice, they faced KÍ Klaksvík in the third qualifying round of the Europa League. Lech beat the Faroese side 1:0, thanks to Yannick Agnero’s 81st-minute goal.

Piast Gliwice began their league campaign with a 2:0 defeat to Zagłębie Lubin. They then secured a dramatic 4:3 home victory over Wisła Kraków, with Leandro scoring the winning goal in the 88th minute.

The match between the Polish Champions and the Gliwice side got off to a quiet start. The guests were the first to cause trouble to their opponent's defence, but Vallejo’s ninth-minute effort went wide. Lech then moved forward, although Luis Palma's and Antoni Kozubal's offensive attempt was blocked by the Silesian side.

The next chance to break the deadlock came in the 31st minute. Patrik Wålemark won the ball and drove straight into the guests’ penalty area. The Swedish winger outpaced the defenders and fired a shot, but Piast's goalkeeper Domen Grill remained alert and made a successful save. Just minutes before halftime, Mateusz Lis produced an impressive intervention when he found himself one-on-one with Samuel Ntamack.

Just before the hour mark, Lech attacked Piast’s goal again. Daniel Håkans and Yannick Agnero both attempted to change the score, but their rival's defence managed to stop the attack. The Finnish winger needed only a few minutes to threaten again. After winning possession in his own half, Håkans carried the ball into the penalty area before playing it across to Mikael Ishak, who made no mistake and found the back of the net to open the scoring.

Lech's captain almost doubled his tally in the 70th minute, but this time Domen Grill stopped his effort. Moments later, Michał Gurgul played the ball forward, and Palma picked it up before delivering a cross towards the right-hand post, where debutant Karol Delikat was waiting. The 18-year-old Academy midfielder needed just 35 seconds on the pitch to beat the guests' goalkeeper and increase Lech’s lead.

Seconds before the end of normal time, Allahyar Sayyadmanesh added a third. After a precise pass from Pablo Rodríguez, the Iranian found the back of the net and set the final score to 3:0.

The result moved Niels Frederiksen’s side to the top of the league table. Their attention now turns to the second leg against KÍ Klaksvík, which will be played on Thursday, August 13th, at the national stadium in Tórshavn.
