Lech midfielder Gisli Thordarson has joined FC St. Pauli on loan. The two-time Polish Champion will spend the remainder of the current season with the 2. Bundesliga club.
The Icelandic midfielder arrived at Lech during the 2024/25 winter break. Since then, he has made 34 competitive appearances for the club, scoring twice and providing two assists. During his time in Poznań, he also made his senior debut for the Iceland national team, earning four caps since October 2025. His spell at Lech has been particularly successful, helping the club lift two Polish Championship titles, as well as the Polish Super Cup.
The 21-year-old completed his medical with FC St. Pauli on Thursday, before all the necessary paperwork was finalised. He is going to compete for the Hamburg-based club until the end of the current campaign. St. Pauli will play in the 2. Bundesliga this season, but their goal is to secure an immediate return to the top flight, following their recent relegation from the highest division. The team has been managed by Marcel Rapp since his appointment in July.
Thordarson could make his debut for his new club as early as this Sunday, when FC St. Pauli begin their league campaign with a home game against SpVgg Greuther Fürth. The midfielder's contract with Lech runs until the end of June 2029.
