Lech Poznań players are currently going through an intense period. On Wednesday, Niels Frederiksen’s squad drew 2:2 against Raków Częstochowa, and just four days later, they were back on the pitch. This time, Lech faced Jagiellonia Białystok, and that match also ended in a 2:2 tie.
Coach Frederiksen’s players may have felt some disappointment after their previous game. Lech drew 2:2 against Raków Częstochowa, despite having a significant advantage over their opponent in the first half. A red card for Luis Palma turned the course of the match, allowing the home team to equalise. The team from Poznań didn’t have much time to recover after the midweek clash - nor did Jagiellonia Białystok, who had faced Legia Warsaw (0:0) just a few days before the clash with Lech.
The first half of the match at Enea Stadium was somewhat surprising for the fans in attendance. Lech struggled to break out of the guests’ pressing and couldn’t create any good goal-scoring opportunities. Jagiellonia sought to exploit transition phases and primarily attacked down the wings. Coach Adrian Siemieniec’s players took the lead just before halftime. Pablo Rodriguez lost the ball in his own half, allowing the rival to launch a counterattack down the right flank; Jesús Imaz converted the effort into a goal after receiving a great cross from Alex Pozo.
The beginning of the second half delivered plenty of emotions to the fans gathered at Bułgarska Street. Just 15 seconds in, Leo Bengtsson scored with a spectacular volley, but Lech’s joy was short-lived - a minute later, Jagiellonia retook the lead after an individual effort from Oskar Pietuszewski.
The second half saw more control from Lech, who managed to push their opponents into the defence. Frederiksen’s squad equalised again with 30 minutes to go, following a penalty kick which Mikael Ishak converted into a goal. The hosts fought until the end to tip the match in their favour, but couldn’t find the net for the third time, hence they had to settle for a draw.
