Wisła Cracow - Lech Poznań 1:1

Lech Poznan drew the 36th league game of the season. Christian Gytkjaer scored the only goal against Wisla Cracow.

Lech kicked off the game well and quickly dominated the play, remaining in possession of the ball for long periods of time and continuously occupying Wisla’s half of the pitch. However, that did not result in numerous scoring chances. Lech struggled to build dangerous offensive actions as well as find space to shoot. Nonetheless, whenever the team from Poznan managed to come close to Wisla’s box, they caused problems to the hosts’ defensive line. For instance, in the 14th minute, Jozwiak crossed the ball into the penalty area and Gytkjaer redirected it towards the goal with a header, but Dane’s attempt turned out to be slightly off target.

After a period of Lech’s domination, Wisla regained control of the game by playing effectively in the midfield and looking for opportunities to cross the ball into the box from the right flank where Cywka was positioned. In the 24th minute, Mitrovic sent a good pass into Lech’s penalty area where Kolar was waiting, but the footballer’s mishit couldn’t have caused any problems to Putnocky.

Shortly before halftime, Lech gradually started regaining control of the match and had a couple of scoring chances following set pieces. One of corner kicks was converted by Jevtic into a precise cross heading towards the further post and although Tralka changed the direction of the ball, Gajos had a decent chance to surprise the keeper with a shot from a short distance, but one of the defenders stopped the ball from falling into the back of the net. A moment later Jevtic’s pass stopped on the crossbar.

The second half began well for Lech since the players from Poznan took the lead in the 49th minute. Jevtic was the author of a great cross into the box which was intercepted by Majewski. Wisla’s keeper stopped the midfielder’s attempt, but he was helpless when Gytkjaer fired another shot at the goal. Lech seemed to be in control, even despite a 10-minute break caused by the intervention of firemen who had to put down a fire started by a group of Wisla’s fans.

After both teams returned to the pitch, Lech had a couple more goal-scoring chances. One of the offensive actions was built by Tomasik who gave the ball to Jevtic, but the Swiss midfielder hit the post. In the 72nd minute, Wisla had a great opportunity to equalize but Mitrovic’s last pass was too strong for his teammates to convert into a shot. Nonetheless, Putnocky had to put in some effort to redirect the ball above the crossbar.

Wisla dominated the last quarter of the match, but similarly to their rival, the hosts struggled to build dangerous offensive actions. The team from Cracow focused on set pieces, but Lech’s defensive line was positioned very well and effectively stopped a majority of the crosses that were heading towards the goal. The team from Poznan was also waiting for opportunities to counterattack. However, before the guests got another chance to score the second goal, Wisla managed to score a last-minute equalizer that gave them a crucial point.
