Sunday’s match stood out not only for the scale of the victory over Legia Warsaw, but also for another Academy player making his debut. Hubert Janyszka came on late in the game, registering his first minutes in the Polish top division.
Janyszka first caught wider attention during the summer training camp, when he worked with the first team and featured in a friendly. The defender played against Chrobry Głogów, spending 76 minutes on the pitch. In the following months, the 17-year-old became an important figure for the second team, earning a regular starting spot. The centre-back made 15 appearances in the third tier, and in recent weeks, due to Antonio Milić's and Mateusz Skrzypczak's injuries, he began training with the senior squad. He did not have to wait long for his debut, which came on Sunday against Legia Warsaw.
“When I found out I was coming on, I couldn't hide the smile on my face; I felt great pride to make my debut for Lech, as I’ve been at the club since I was 10. An incredible feeling. I couldn’t have imagined a better moment - full stands, that kind of result, and that opponent,” said Lech's homegrown player.
The 17-year-old entered the pitch in the closing minutes of the Sunday clash, replacing Joel Pereira. From that point on, the defensive line consisted entirely of Academy graduates, with an average age of just 21.8. “I didn’t feel any pressure - I just played the way I always would, kept it simple as the coach instructed. It was completely different from the third division; the players were certainly of higher quality, and everything happened faster. The game was more intense in terms of running. I came on right at the end when everyone was already tired, but I could see the differences,” explained Janyszka.
