Legia Warsaw - Lech Poznań 0:0

Lech’s clashes with Legia Warsaw have been the highlight of Polish football for a long time now. On Sunday, the two teams faced each other in an attempt to extend their winning streaks, however, as a result of a goalless draw, they were forced to share league points.

John van den Brom’s squad faced Legia after two triumphs in a row – against Zawisza Bydgoszcz (4:0) in the Fortuna Polish Cup and Ruch Chorzów (2:0) in the league. Their opponent from Warsaw has also been performing well in the previous days – last weekend, they won against Radomiak Radom (1:0) in PKO BP Ekstraklasa, and then they defeated Zrinjskim Mostar (2:0) in the Europa Conference League. On top of that, were Lech to win against Legia, they would surpass Jagiellonia Białystok in the league table and be ranked second.

In the first half, the hosts were in control of the match and caused a few problems for Bartosz Mrozek. The 23-year-old successfully stopped Paweł Wszołek’s shot and intervened impressively when Patryk Kun tried to surprise the goalkeeper. Meanwhile, Lech tried creating goal-scoring opportunities with long balls targeting the wings. Adriel Ba Loua was one of the more active players and caused problems for Steve Kapuadi on the flank.

In the second part of the match, the team from Poznań had more to say and created a few good scoring chances. Shortly after the referee resumed the game, Miha Blazic had an opportunity to take advantage of the chaos in Legia’s box when the ball landed at his feet, but the defender’s shot flew straight at Kacper Tobiasz. Not long later, the Slovenian defender had another chance to score, this time with his head, but the attempt was off target. Mikael Ishak came close to redirecting his teammate’s shot into the goal, however, he missed the ball by centimetres. In the end, the fans gathered at Łazienkowska Street didn’t see any goal on Sunday afternoon and the two sides had to share league points.
