Ishak’s record-breaking season

Lech's fans have long known about the Swede’s goalscoring talent. In each of his previous five seasons at the club, he reached double figures, establishing himself as one of Ekstraklasa’s most reliable forwards. This year, however, the 33-year-old surpassed even his own high standards, enjoying the best season of his career.

Ishak finished the campaign with 40 goal contributions, comfortably beating his previous best of 29, set in the 2022/23 season. The Swede broke the 30-goal mark for the first time, scoring 31 times, and added nine assists as he helped Lech win the league title.

"Individual numbers are never the most important thing for me," said Ishak. "I have great teammates around me and I always feel their support. I try to give as much as possible to the team, whether that's dropping deeper to receive the ball or linking midfield with the attack. Statistics don't always show that side of the game."

During an outstanding first half of the recent season, Ishak repeatedly spoke about feeling physically stronger than ever, and the numbers back that up. He set new career highs with 50 appearances and 3,870 minutes on the pitch, remaining remarkably consistent throughout the campaign.

"Despite the packed schedule, I felt strong almost all season. I know my body and I know what it needs at different moments. Working closely with the coaching and medical staff helped us manage the workload properly, and that allowed me to avoid even minor injuries. Sometimes that meant staying in the gym or working on the bike instead of joining the team on the training pitch. Those little details can make a huge difference. I also believe I can still improve," explained the Swedish forward.

Beyond the individual milestones, Ishak’s performances played a key role in Lech’s long European run and, most importantly, the club’s tenth Polish Championship title. For the captain, the team’s mentality was the biggest factor behind that success.

"What defined this season was our ability to keep fighting and bounce back from difficult moments. That helped us stay in touch with the top of the table before eventually pulling away ourselves. We wanted to go as far as possible in Europe and, above all, defend the title. We have a very intelligent coach who knows exactly when and how to speak to the team, and I try to be his voice on the pitch and fulfil that responsibility as best I can," said the striker, who has already scored 121 goals for Lech Poznań.
