Lech Poznań took advantage of the purchase option in Luis Palma’s loan deal from Celtic FC, making the Honduran winger a permanent member of the squad. His contract will run until June 30th, 2029.
The 26-year-old joined Lech on loan from the Scottish club last summer and quickly became one of the team’s key players; he played a major role in securing the club’s tenth Polish Championship title. In the PKO BP Ekstraklasa, Palma made 31 appearances, scoring 10 goals and providing 6 assists. He also featured in 15 European matches, contributing 2 goals and 4 assists. Overall, he recorded 22 goal contributions (12 goals and 10 assists) across all competitions.
“The loan agreement with Celtic FC included an option to buy, so the decision was entirely in our hands from the outset. We are pleased to confirm that on Wednesday, June 3rd, we exercised the clause and Luis Palma will be a part of our squad until June 30th, 2029. Naturally, we cannot disclose the exact figures involved, but I can confirm that this is the highest transfer fee in the club’s history,” said Lech’s Sporting Director, Tomasz Rząsa.
Palma is currently with the Honduras national team at a training camp in the United States. On Saturday, Honduras will face Argentina in Texas. So far, Palma has 34 international caps and 7 goals for his country.
“It was impossible to overlook Luis’s performances. He settled into the team very quickly and consistently delivered quality on the pitch, a fact that was reflected in his statistics. We remained calm throughout the speculation surrounding his future because we knew we held all the cards. After reviewing the season, we decided to make the move permanent. We hope Luis’s excellent form continues and that he helps us from the very start of the new campaign, especially in the upcoming UEFA Champions League qualifiers. We are working hard to ensure we have the strongest possible squad in place ahead of the pre-season,” emphasised Rząsa.
