“Team matters more than goals”

“We have to keep concentrating on the games that are ahead of us, instead of the ones we have already played. This week’s training sessions will have a more significant impact on the upcoming match against Wisla Plock than the result of our recent league clash,” explained Thomas Rogne, Lech’s defender.

After an unlucky spring, Thomas Rogne has finally found a permanent spot in Lech’s defensive line. Despite being injured twice, the defender appeared in 15 matches since July this year. In the last 6 matches, he spent 90 minutes on the pitch.

In the past weekend, the Norwegian centre-back scored his first league goal for Lech Poznan and 11th in his career. Rogne placed the ball in the net twice whilst playing for Norway’s U-21 national team, got 3 goals while competing for Goteborg and Celtic, and scored once for Stabaek and Lech’s reserves team.

“The moment I scored [against Jagiellonia], I was happier about the fact that we just got an equalizer in a tough match than the fact that it was me who scored the goal. I would like to tell you that it was a special moment for me, but the truth is, I was thinking about the team,” explained Rogne. “To be honest with you, I haven’t seen the goal yet and I am not sure whether it is worth watching,” added the defender with a smile.

After a series of poor performances, Lech’s senior team was given a new training staff. The clash with Jagiellonia was the first test for the new coach. “The first week with coach Zuraw was very positive. We performed well in the match against Jagiellonia which means that so far, everything’s going well. If you look at the first half, we played attractive football and you could even observe a couple of elements that we practised during the training sessions. In my opinion, it was a decent match,” emphasised Rogne.

The one point won in a difficult away match can arouse optimism ahead of the international break and all the games Lech still has to play before the end of this year. “Before the last international break, we also drew 2:2 but against Gornik Zabrze. In the next league match, we performed very well against Korona Kielce and we had our hopes high ahead of the upcoming games. Unfortunately, back then, we failed to continue the successful run. Hence, it’s more important that we focus on everyday preparations than on the recent scores,” explained the defender.

Currently, Lech’s senior players are preparing for the league game against Wisla Plock. It will be the first round of the second part of the league season. Rogne made his debut for Lech against the same team. “We have already played once against Wisla Plock this season, so I know the team. We have got over a week left, therefore we have the time to improve our weaknesses during training sessions,” summarised Rogne.
