The extended international break, which lasted longer than in previous years, has come to an end. Since Wednesday, Lech’s senior team has been preparing for their upcoming games with the full squad available. There is plenty to come, as Niels Frederiksen’s team will play as many as nine competitive matches across three different competitions in the space of a month, starting with Saturday’s PKO BP Ekstraklasa fixture against Śląsk Wrocław.
Shortly after their last league match against Radomiak Radom (5:1), eight Lech players joined their respective national teams. The rest of the squad took advantage of the first week of the international break to enjoy some time off from training before regrouping at the start of the following week. The past couple of weeks have seen the team work on various aspects of their game at the training ground located at Bułgarska Street. They also played a friendly against Energie Cottbus as part of their preparations for the ninth league game of the season, against Śląsk Wrocław.
The meeting with the newly promoted side will mark the beginning of Lech’s busiest spell of the autumn. Between October 10th and November 8th, Frederiksen and his men are scheduled to play nine competitive matches across all competitions. The packed calendar includes five Ekstraklasa fixtures, three Europa League matches, and a round-of-32 tie in the STS Polish Cup. There will be little time to catch their breath, as Lech will compete both midweek and at weekends throughout this period. It will be the only time this season that they face such a demanding schedule over such an extended stretch.
The upcoming run of matches every three days features two more games than Lech’s schedule over the equivalent period in the 2025/26 season. Back then, between the October and November international breaks, Lech also had to play twice a week, making that stretch the busiest of the entire campaign. This time, there will be even more action on the Polish and European pitches, but the Danish coach’s side is also in a stronger position heading into the coming weeks. This is particularly true in the PKO BP Ekstraklasa, where they have made an impressive start, collecting 19 points from their first 8 matches. A year ago, after the October international break, Lech returned to league action with 18 points collected in 10 games.
