Lech have made an excellent start to the new season. Niels Frederiksen's side defeated Górnik Zabrze 3:1 in the Polish Super Cup to claim their first trophy of the campaign
Lech began pre-season preparations in late June before heading to the Research and Development Centre in Wronki for a two-week training camp. During their stay, they played friendly matches against FK Železiarne Podbrezová, Bohemians Prague, and Polonia Środa Wielkopolska. The team went into Thursday's Super Cup clash in confident spirits, with coach Niels Frederiksen handing competitive debuts to two new signings: Mateusz Lis and Terry Yegbe.
The hosts started well, however, to everyone's surprise, it was Górnik who took the lead. Following a corner kick for Lech, the side from Zabrze launched a swift counter-attack, with Maksym Khlan converting it into the opening goal of the night. The hosts needed a few minutes to recover from the setback but managed to equalise before the break. Patrik Walemark sped down the right flank and set up Antoni Kozubal with a perfect pass, whilst the latter calmly slotted home.
Lech needed seconds after the restart to turn the game around. A well-worked team move was finished clinically by Mikael Ishak, who made no mistake in a one-on-one with the goalkeeper. The Polish Champions dominated the second half, controlling possession in midfield while continuing to threaten down the flanks. Their third goal arrived in the 69th minute. Yannick Agnero cleverly wrong-footed the defender marking him with his first touch before unleashing a powerful shot from outside the penalty area, which Philipp Schulze managed to save. However, Górnik's goalkeeper was powerless to stop Pablo Rodríguez from converting the rebound. The Spaniard wrapped up the victory for Lech, who can now turn their attention to their UEFA Champions League qualifying clash with Aarhus. The first leg will be played in Denmark next Tuesday, with kick-off scheduled for 7:00 PM.
