Lech Poznań - Legia Warsaw 1:0

In the 32nd round of Lotto Ekstraklasa, Lech Poznan beat Legia Warsaw 1:0 at home. Filip Marchwiński scored the only goal in the Wednesday clash.

In the opening 15 minutes of the match, both teams cautiously awaited their rival’s next move whilst failing to take control of the game. After the first quarter had passed, Legia finally managed to create the first goal-scoring opportunity. Kucharczyk crossed the ball into the box were Nagy was positioned, however the latter’s shot was off target. On the other end of the pitch, Amaral attempted to sent a pass into the penalty area, but his cross turned out to be a shot which surprised everyone, including Legia’s keeper. Nonetheless, Cierzniak successfully stopped the ball from falling into the back of the net.

In the 30th minute, the hosts got their first shot on target. Gajos finished off an impressive team attack but his attempt was easily stopped but the keeper. Lech managed to dominate the next phase of the game, however they lacked precision hence most of their offensive attacks were failures. Kostevych and Carlitos had their goal-scoring chances but both players were stoppped by the keepers. Before the referee announced halftime, Legia built a counterattack that was finished off by Carlitos, however, luckily for Lech, Buric intervened impressively.

In the second half, Legia continued putting pressure on Lech’s defensive line. Kucharczyk and Nagy had opportunities to score for the team from Warsaw but neither of them managed to beat the keeper. Lech responded with Amaral’s shot which was slightly off target. A couple of minutes later, the hosts had a perfect chance to take the lead when Makuszewski and Zhamaletdinov built a great counterattack but Legia’s keeper intervened well.

The team from Poznan dominated the next phase of the match but they continued to lack precision in their offensive attempts. One of the set pieces won by Lech resulted in a great scoring chance for Gumny, but his header was significantly off target. Finally, in the 81st minute Lech took the lead. Marchwiński won back the ball, raced alongside the goal, and fire a flat shot past the goalkeeper and into the net.

The hosts controlled the closing minuts of the match. In the added time, Kostevych came close to scoring from a free kick, but his shot missed the goal by centimeters.
