Lech Poznań - Jagiellonia Białystok 2:1

Following their qualification for the league phase of the Europa League, Lech returned to action in the PKO BP Ekstraklasa. Due to the European competition, the Poznań side were forced to postpone two league fixtures, including their home clash with Jagiellonia. As a result, Frederiksen and his players are now in the midst of a marathon run of league matches. First, Lech travelled to Łódź, where they beat Widzew 3:2 thanks to Luis Palma’s last-minute winner. Next came the big clash at Bułgarska Street against Adrian Siemieniec’s squad, who, like the Poznań side, had qualified for the Europa League.

Both teams started the match with high ambitions. Each side was determined to add three points to their tally, which would have brought significant changes to the league standings and, in Lech’s case, put them at the top of the table. The opening 30 minutes were balanced, with both teams primarily looking to break through towards the opposition penalty area and create a good scoring opportunity. The first dangerous chance came in the 29th minute, when Lozano tried his luck. His effort flew towards Mateusz Lis’s goal but struck the side net. The hosts did not take long to respond. Allahyar Sayyadmanesh unleashed a powerful shot, but, like Jagiellonia’s earlier attempt, it went wide. The deadlock was finally broken in the 42nd minute by Pablo Rodríguez. Unable to find a good shooting position inside the penalty area, Luis Palma picked out Joel Pereira on the right. The Portuguese defender delivered the ball into the box, where the Spaniard converted it into an opening goal with a precise header. Jagiellonia levelled just before halftime thanks to Kobayashi, who found the net with an extremely powerful and precise effort from distance.

After the break, the hosts launched a series of attacks on their opponent’s goal. Sayyadmanesh, Palma, Wålemark, and Agnero all tried their luck, but none found the back of Abramowicz’s net. The decisive moment came in the 87th minute. Michał Gurgul stepped up to take a corner and delivered an accurate cross into the penalty area, where Gumny rose to meet it and fired the ball between the posts. Montoia tried to clear it but couldn't keep it out. Szymon Marciniak initially disallowed the goal, but a VAR review revealed that Wojciech Mońka did not commit a foul.

The win extended Lech’s unbeaten league run, which has stretched back to March, and sent the Poznań side to the top of the table. Another test awaits this weekend, when Frederiksen and his men host Raków Częstochowa at Enea Stadium. Before the international break, Lech will also travel to Zabrze to face the Polish runners-up, Górnik, before heading to London, where they will begin their Europa League league-phase campaign against Crystal Palace.
