Lech Poznań – Pogoń Szczecin 4:0

In the 29th round of PKO Ekstraklasa, Lech beat Pogoń Szczecin 4:0 and climbed up the league ranks. Moder, Gytkjaer, Ramirez and Kamiński all scored for the side from Poznań.

Following last weekend’s high draw against Zagłębie, Lech’s coaching staff made a few changes in the starting line-up. Moder appeared in the initial XI in the midfield, whereas Puchacz replaced Kostevych on the left flank. The opening minutes of the clash with Pogoń were relatively peaceful and the fans had to wait over 15 minutes to see the first shot. Still, Ramirez’s attempt was slightly off target, therefore not causing any problems to Pogoń. A few minutes later Lech scored the opening goal. This time, the Spaniard spotted Puchacz on the left flank and the latter set up a perfect goal-scoring opportunity for his Academy teammate, Moder. The youngster had no problems placing the ball in the net.

Pogoń got back to work and even created a good chance for Malec, however, a couple of minutes later the team from Szczecin had to focus on the defence again. This time Tiba and Gytkjaer caused problems to their opponent’s defenders but in the last phase of the attempt, the Dane lost control of the ball and was stopped. Still, it didn’t take long for Lech to find a way to score again. The team from Poznan applied high pressing which enabled Gytkjaer to recover the ball from Podstawski and beat the keeper with a precise shot from outside the box. It was Gytkjaer’s 17th goal this season. Moder once again played an important role in the goal-scoring action. Even though Lech remained in control of the match until halftime, Pogoń did come close to scoring. Podstawski raced into the box and found himself one-on-one with van der Hart, however, it was the goalkeeper who triumphed in the direct clash, saving his team from conceding a goal.

At halftime, Pogoń’s coach made two changes which drastically impacted the performance of his team. In the second half, we saw a totally different Pogoń which caused much more problems to Lech. For the first few minutes, the side from Szczecin dominated, however, in the 57th minute Lech struck again. Moder tried surprising the keeper with a strong shot from outside the box and Stipic instinctively attempted to stop the ball. However, unluckily for Pogoń, the ball fell by Ramirez’s feet and the Spaniard tapped it into the net. Within 5 minutes it was 4:0. This time the Spanish midfielder set up a perfect goal-scoring opportunity for Kamiński who beat the goalkeeper effortlessly. Lech remained in control of the game until halftime, completely dominating the rival. Even though the hosts had plenty of scoring opportunities and Pogoń’s last-minute shot missed the target by centimetres, the final score remained 4:0 and Lech could finally add three important points to their account. The squad from Poznan has one more crucial game – against Korona Kielce – left before the playoffs.
