Lech Poznań – Jagiellonia Białystok 1:1

Lech Poznan drew with Jagiellonia Bialystok 1:1 in a home league clash. Pawel Tomczyk scored the only goal for the hosts.

Zuraw’s team came out on the pitch determined and hungry to make up for the last few poor performances at home. Shortly after the referee blew the first whistle, Kaminski – for whom the clash with Jagiellonia was a debut – found some space to shoot from outside the box, but his attempt was off target. Lech kept on putting pressure on the rival’s defensive line. The team from Poznan built a couple of scoring opportunities but Jagiellonia’s goalkeeper intervened well. The wasted chances took revenge on Lech when their opponent intercepted a pass in the midfield and led a counterattack that Klimala converted into a goal.

Lech was determined to catch up as quickly as possible but despite chances which were converted into headers by Muhar and Satka, the team from Poznan struggled to beat the goalkeeper. On the other end of the pitch, Jagiellonia was causing problems and Romanczuk’s shot could have easily fallen into the back of the net if it wasn’t for van der Hart’s impressive intervention. A few moments later, Puchacz approached a free kick which was stopped by one of the players forming the wall. The referee didn’t react at first since he hadn’t noticed handball but after reviewing the situations and analysing replays, he decided to award the team from Poznan with a penalty kick. Tomczyk effortlessly converted the chance into an equalizer, hence the first half ended with a one-goal draw.

The previously mentioned debutant made the opening minutes of the second half exhilarating with his bicycle kick which, although impressive, was off target. Unfortunately, Kaminski’s shot was the main and only interesting highlight of the second part of the match. Most of the game was focused around the midfield with neither of teams dominating nor creating many chances. Lech’s players were persistent with their offensive attempts but most of them were unsuccessful. In addition, even if Zuraw wanted to bring some fresh energy and sent in offensive substitutes, Rogne’s and Muhar’s injuries forced him to make changes that had little to do with offensive tactics. Tomczyk was the most active player on the pitch but even he failed to place the ball in the back of the net for the second time that evening. The match ended with a 1:1 draw hence the two teams were forced to share points.
