“With each day, I feel progress, and everyone says things are heading in the right direction. But I’m focusing on the next step only and doing everything I can to come back fully ready,” says Lech Poznań player Patrik Wålemark. It has been nearly two months since the winger’s surgery, but, thus far, his recovery is going according to plan.
The 23-year-old Swede arrived in the capital of Greater Poland last August on loan from Feyenoord Rotterdam and quickly earned a spot in Niels Frederiksen’s starting lineup. In his debut round at Lech, he managed to score four goals and provide one assist. During the winter break, the club’s management decided to make Wålemark’s transfer from the Dutch club permanent. In the spring, the Swede repaid the trust with another four goals and three assists, undoubtedly becoming one of the key offensive players in the team that secured the ninth league title in Lech’s history.
During the 2025/2026 preseason, Wålemark struggled with health issues and ended up requiring surgery. The operation took place nearly two months ago, in mid-July. How is the recovery going thus far? Here’s what the player himself had to say about his rehabilitation.
“I feel like I’m making slow but steady progress every day. It’s not just about the knee - I’m also focusing on other aspects of my body daily. The goal is to feel as good as possible when I return, so that I can play 90 minutes, but also to regain full trust in my body. Currently, we’re also doing a lot of work around preventing future injuries,” explained the Swedish winger.
From almost the very start of his recovery, Wålemark wanted to be based in Poznań. He wished to stay in touch with his teammates and meet with them whenever possible, despite having a personalised training schedule.
“Of course, it wasn’t easy shortly after the surgery, but it was important for me to be back here with the team as soon as possible. That way, I can support them; I also receive support back. It’s tough to watch matches from the sidelines when you really want to help the team, but now I’m trying to do it differently - from inside the locker room,” highlighted Wålemark.
“I try not to think too far ahead as I’m aware that recovery is a process. Each new day counts and brings progress. Still, I remain positive because I can see that the work is paying off. I also have a bit more time now for my family and loved ones - they surround me with plenty of support and strength. It’s important not to focus solely on rehabilitation, but also on life beyond it,” concluded the Swede. His teammates will face Zagłębie Lubin on Friday, at 8:30 PM, at the Enea Stadium.
