On Monday evening, Yannick Agnero officially became a Lech Poznań player. The 22-year-old striker from the Ivory Coast joins the Polish club on a permanent transfer from the Swedish side Halmstads BK. His contract will run until June 30th, 2030.
On Sunday evening, the forward arrived in the capital of Greater Poland, and the next morning, he underwent medical tests, which were the final step before signing the contract. The deal was officially finalised on Monday evening.
“Yannick Agnero joins us on a permanent transfer from the Swedish club Halmstads BK. We signed a five-year contract, valid until 2030. We emphasised that one of our priorities in this transfer window was to bring in a striker, and we chose the Ivorian, in whom we see great potential. We also consulted with people in Sweden, and we believe he can be a valuable addition to our team. Just a month ago, Agnero was financially out of our reach - back then, he was closer to clubs from the top 5 leagues or Belgium. However, at the end of the window, an opportunity arose, and we took advantage of it. Yannick’s strengths include speed, smart positioning in the penalty area, and the ability to run onto balls played behind the defence. He plays with high intensity, which fits the style preferred by our coach Niels Frederiksen,” explained Lech Poznań Sporting Director, Tomasz Rząsa.
Agnero was born on February 20, 2003. He comes from the Ivory Coast but was trained at the Right to Dream academy in Ghana, which is affiliated with the Danish club FC Nordsjaelland. He moved to Scandinavia in the summer of 2021, at the age of 18. Soon after, in October, he made his league debut against Vejle. Later, he was loaned twice to the Danish top-division sides Fremad Amager and FC Helsingør. In August 2024, he moved to Sweden to join Halmstads BK, where he scored a crucial goal in the penultimate round of the campaign, helping his team avoid relegation.
In the current season (which follows a spring-to-autumn format in Sweden), Halmstads BK is just above the relegation zone. The team has only scored 17 goals, and Agnero was involved in half of them, scoring 5 and providing 3 assists.
“Lech Poznań is a big Polish club; they won the championship title in the previous season. I know that’s a great achievement, and I believe we can do it again. I’m thrilled to be here. I watched plenty of videos from the stands, and the atmosphere was amazing. I’m really looking forward to the moment when I can play in front of these incredible fans and show my skills,” highlighted Yannick Agnero.
