In the 28th round of the PKO BP Ekstraklasa, Lech Poznań welcomed GKS Katowice at the Enea Stadium. The fans gathered in Poznań witnessed an exhilarating match, which ended in a 3:3 draw.
Niels Frederiksen and his players approached the Sunday clash in a comfortable position. Their main rivals in the title race had dropped points, meaning Lech's advantage over the rest of the field could have increased. Additionally, GKS Katowice arrived in Poznań following a midweek fixture. Rafał Górak's team had faced Raków Częstochowa in the Polish Cup semi-final, which required a penalty shoot-out to decide the outcome.
The guests adopted a very attacking approach from the first whistle. The team from Katowice applied high pressing on the their opponents, who struggled to play out from the back under pressure. The Silesian team held the upper hand, although their most dangerous chances came from set pieces. The situation changed in the 38th minute, when a cross from the right was converted into a goal by Eman Marković.
Lech responded shortly after the break. Pablo Rodríguez sent a low ball into the penalty area, and Arkadiusz Jędrych accidentally redirected it into his own net. Just as it seemed the hosts had regained momentum, GKS took the lead again, with Ilija Shkurin beating Bartosz Mrozek. The hosts needed 15 minutes to respond. Luis Palma released Daniel Håkans into open space, and he used his pace to fire a powerful left-footed shot and level the score once more. Not long afterwards, Katowice struck for the third time. A left-footed cross from Marcin Wasielewski found Erik Jirka; his effort was cleared off the line by Wojciech Mońka, but Marković converted the rebound. Once again, the hosts’ reply was immediate. Ali Gholizadeh found Palma in the penalty area, and the Honduran sent a flat shot into the back of the net.
In the final minutes, it was Lech who came closest to securing all three points. Yannick Agnero produced a good header, however, it was saved by Strączek. Just before the end of regular time, the goalkeeper made an even better stop in a one-on-one situation against Håkans. The match ultimately finished in a 3:3 draw.
