Markus Søgaard Uglebjerg has joined Lech’s coaching staff. The 26-year-old Dane, who spent the past two years at Viborg FF, will be Niels Frederiksen’s new assistant coach.
On Friday, Lech Poznań parted ways with coach Dariusz Dudka, who has spent the past decade at the club. The following day, it was announced that Markus Søgaard Uglebjerg would be filling the spot. The Dane signed his new contract remotely after reaching an agreement on the conditions of his employment.
“Today, we are happy to announce that Markus Uglebjerg, with whom we reached a two-year agreement, will reinforce the coaching staff of the Polish Champions. Despite his young age, the coach has plenty of experience; he spent the last two years in the Danish Superligaen, working for Viborg FF. He will help with the everyday coaching work as well as the set pieces,” said Lech’s Sporting Director, Tomasz Rząsa.
Coach Markus Søgaard Uglebjerg was born on March 16th, 1999. He has a UEFA A license. He began his adventure as a coach at the age of 17, working part-time and training his peers at Svendborg f.B.-Oure FA. From there, he joined Boldklubben af 1893 before moving to FC Helsingør, a Danish team with which he secured promotion to Superligaen in 2020. During the four years at FC Helsingør, Uglebjerg was an analytic coach and also led the U-15 squad as the head coach.
In July 2021, the Dane joined Odense BK for 18 months before returning to his former club at the beginning of 2023. Since June 2023, Uglebjerg has been working as an assistant coach at the top-division Danish club Viborg FF, where he was, among other things, in charge of set pieces – defensive and offensive. In this specific aspect, his team was one of the top performers in the league. Now Uglebjerg is moving to Poland, where he will work alongside Niels Frederiksen.
