Lech Poznań's response to the disappointing draw in Radom exceeded everyone’s expectations – Niels Frederiksen’s squad beat Puszcza Niepołomice 8:1 at home. It is one of the highest wins in the history of the Polish top division.
The team from Poznań proved once again that when playing at Bułgarska Street, they are practically unstoppable. Within the first 15 minutes, Lech has already found the back of the net three times. Ali Gholizadeh played a key role in all goals – first, he opened the scoring sheet with a beautiful, technical shot, and then added another one following an individual run that left Puszcza’s defenders helpless. Not long later, the Iranian midfielder got an assist – Mikael Ishak converted his well-timed pass into the third goal. Quite unexpectedly, in the 21st minute, Bartosz Mrozek was forced to remove the ball from Lech’s net when Jani Atanasov’s technical shot from outside the box proved to be too good for the goalkeeper to stop. However, it didn’t take long for the hosts to kill Puszcza’s hope. Within 3 minutes, Afonso Sousa got a brace – first he scored with an impressive shot from outside the box, and then redirected the ball into the net with a header – and set the score in the first half to 5:1.
The result didn’t seem to satisfy Frederiksen’s players, and in the second half, they looked as determined as in the first 45 minutes. In the 56th minute, Ishak received a perfect pass from Antonio Milić and effortlessly beat Puszcza’s keeper in a one-on-one situation. Less than 10 minutes later, Kornel Lisman – one of Lech’s young homegrown players – got his first goal for the senior team. Daniel Hakans led a counterattack and set up his younger colleague with a pass that was very easy to convert into the sixth goal. Dino Hotić was the last player to add his name to the goal scorers’ sheet – the Bosnian’s exquisite shot from outside the box was impossible for Puszcza’s goalkeeper to stop. As a result, the match ended with an 8:1 win for the hosts – an impressive win that still gives them a shot at the Polish Championship title.
