The first win in 38 days

On Sunday, Lech Poznań beat their local rival Warta Poznań 2:0. It was the first win in 38 days. “We are hoping that we will get back on the winning track, step by step,” highlighted Filip Marchwiński who scored one of the goals.

The last time that John van den Brom’s squad celebrated a victory was on August 10th, after they defeated Spartak Trnava 2:1 in the first leg of Europa Conference League playoffs. More than a month has passed since then and over this period, Lech lost in Slovakia 1:3, and then failed to win two PKO BP Ekstraklasa games – against Śląsk Wrocław (1:3), and Górnik Zabrze (1:1). Finally, after 38 days, the team from Poznań put an end to this series of poor performances.

Moreover, Lech has gone even longer – 49 days – without winning a league point. The last time that John van den Brom’s players triumphed on Ekstraklasa pitches was on July 30th, against Radomiak Radom (2:0). “This win makes us all happy. We are glad to be back on the winning track. I hope that we can uphold it in the upcoming matches. However, we ought to focus only on the next rival. It’s also worth remembering that we have two overdue games. We isolate ourselves from the world because it’s no secret that if you looked at the league table prior to this match, we weren’t at the top. However, now we are climbing back up and I hope that everything goes well,” emphasized Lech’s midfielder, Radosław Murawski.

Lech particularly enjoys playing against Warta – they won 7 games in a row against the local opponent.

“We hope to continue succeeding in the Poznań derby for as long as possible. However, to win the much-desired Championship title, you need more than just triumphs in the derby. We were lacking the match rhythm today. Last season we were used to playing every 3 days, but now the situation turned out differently. Even if we still played in the Europa Conference League, or any other competition, goal no. 1 would still remain to win the Polish Championship,” highlighted the experienced midfielder.

Filip Marchiwński, who was positioned as the striker in the Sunday clash, scored the first goal in the derby. “We are hoping that we will get back on the winning track, step by step,” said the 21-year-old. “I was gone recently because of my call-up from the national team, but I heard from my teammates that they have been working very hard. On the pitch, I felt that we are heading in the right direction, but we surely need to remain calmer. The past few games didn’t go according to our plan, however, there is no point in speaking or thinking about the past. We focus on the future,” added Marchwiński.
