SK Sigma Olomouc - Lech Poznań 1:2

The team coached by Niels Frederiksen had all but secured progression to the Europa Conference League play-offs, but were still fighting for the best possible position going into the next stage. Before kick-off, Lech had seven points to their name, the same as their opponents. Frederiksen’s squad travelled to Olomouc with high hopes of a positive result, particularly as the hosts had been struggling for form in recent weeks.

The opening stages belonged to the Poles, and as early as the 5th minute, Taofeek Ismaheel could have given Lech the lead. The winger missed a golden opportunity, however, and as time went on, the hosts began to grow into the game. Sigma were unable to create any clear goal-scoring chances, though. Lech withstood the Czech side’s pressure and struck twice towards the end of the first half. First, Mikael Ishak produced a fine strike from the edge of the penalty area, and shortly afterwards Pablo Rodríguez was fouled inside the box. Luis Palma stepped up to take the penalty, but his shot was saved by Jan Koutny. The spot-kick had to be retaken due to Sigma players encroaching into the area too early, and this time Ishak made no mistake, calmly doubling Lech’s lead.

After the break, the guests had the chance to seal the deal. Rodríguez was once again brought down in the penalty area, with Ishak once again stepping up. On this occasion, the Czech goalkeeper came out on top. The hosts sensed an opportunity to get back into the match and pulled a goal back late on - Jan Král found the net, following a corner kick. Nevertheless, Lech defended resolutely in the closing stages and held on to their advantage.

The 2:1 victory saw the Polish Champions finish in 11th place in the table, meaning that Lech will face either KuPS Kuopio or Shkëndija in the next round. The draw for this stage will take place on January 15th.
