Pogoń Szczecin - Lech Poznań 1:2

The clash in Szczecin proved to be a real rollercoaster. After 103 minutes of battle against Pogoń Szczecin, Lech ended up triumphing 2:1 and brought back three extremely valuable points to Poznań. Standing guard over the victory was debutant Plamen Andreev, who, despite an injury, remained in goal and proved to be a key figure.

The team coached by Niels Frederiksen remains the favourite in the race for the PKO BP Ekstraklasa title. After two draws, against GKS Katowice and Jagiellonia Białystok, the squad from Poznań was determined to return to the winning track and maintain their place at the top of the table, especially since the teams from Białystok and Zabrze were closing in after the last round.

Lech imposed their pace from the very beginning of the match. In the 9th minute, Mikael Ishak had the first chance to score following a cross from Luis Palma, but Pogoń’s players reacted quickly. Lech's captain attempted to open the scoring twice more, but each time the home side’s defenders were equal to the task. The breakthrough finally came in the 34th minute. After winning the ball in their own half, Patrik Wålemark dribbled past his opponents and gave the ball to Palma, who was in a better shooting position. Although the Honduran’s effort was blocked, the ball fell straight to Antoni Kozubal, who sent it into the net with a powerful shot. This situation gave the hosts renewed impetus, and they pushed forward in search of an equaliser. They came close, but Michał Gurgul cleared the ball heading towards goal. A few minutes later, the left-back tried his own effort, but Pogoń’s goalkeeper was alert. Just before the break, Joel Pereira also came close, but his shot struck the crossbar.

The second half began with further goal-scoring attempts from the guests. In the 47th minute, Ishak and Wålemark nearly doubled the lead, but the chance did not result in a second goal. A few minutes later, the Swedish winger once again threatened the opposition’s goal, but Cojocaru demonstrated excellent efficiency. In the 61st minute, Palma found himself in a clear position. He received a pass from Ali Gholizadeh and confidently placed the ball in the net. The match grew more intense when, in the 80th minute, the hosts scored a consolation goal. After a scramble in the penalty area, Mukairu got on the scoresheet.

The closing stages, however, brought the greatest drama. During one of the interventions, Plamen Andreev sustained an injury. Despite visible pain and treatment from the medical staff, the Bulgarian managed to remain on the pitch, knowing his team had no more substitutions left. It quickly became clear that his determination proved crucial in Lech securing all three points - just before the final whistle, the 21-year-old produced a fantastic save, denying Pogoń an equaliser.

Frederiksen’s team remains top of the PKO BP Ekstraklasa and retains a three-point advantage over Jagiellonia Białystok and Górnik Zabrze. Lech's next league game is an awaited clash with Legia Warsaw in front of a packed stadium at Bułgarska Street.
