The operation to replace the pitch at the Enea Stadium on Bułgarska Street has been completed. Already on Thursday evening, during Lech's clash with Shakhtar Donetsk in the UEFA Conference League Round of 16, the players will be able to compete in comfortable conditions.
The turf had previously been replaced during the November international break. In January, the pitch seemed to be in almost perfect condition. Heated from below, covered with geotextile fabric, and illuminated with solar lamps, with blowers running to improve air circulation, it was ready for the start of the spring round. However, the January PKO BP Ekstraklasa match against Lechia Gdańsk took place in extremely harsh weather conditions, with temperatures well below freezing. That was when the pitch suffered serious damage.
As a result, a rapid decision was made to replace the turf, as the club wants to provide the team with the best possible playing conditions. The first stage of the operation took place before the Polish Cup match against Górnik Zabrze, when around 20 per cent of the pitch was replaced. As usual, the grass arrived in rolls from a plantation near Budapest. Immediately after the match, the second stage began, and by the weekend, the entire turf was replaced. Maintenance works are now ongoing, and on Thursday, during the match against Shakhtar Donetsk, Lech will compete on a brand new pitch.
