Wojciech Mońka extended his contract with Lech Poznań. The two-time Polish Champion has signed a new deal with his home club, keeping him at Lech until the end of June 2030.
Last season was a successful one for the entire blue-and-white squad, as Lech defended their title and claimed the tenth Polish Championship in the club’s history. Wojciech Mońka was undoubtedly one of the key figures in the recent campaign. The Academy homegrown player has spent almost a decade wearing Lech's shirt.
The teenage centre-back continued to develop as the months went by and, crucially, maintained a high level of consistency during the decisive stage of the 2025/2026 campaign. In fact, from Lech’s first PKO BP Ekstraklasa match of the calendar year, Mońka played the full 90 minutes in 15 out of their 16 fixtures. His performances also caught the attention of the Poland U-21 manager, Jerzy Brzęczek, who allowed him to debut for the country’s oldest youth national team during the European Championship qualifiers. The 19-year-old also impressed on the international club stage, helping Lech reach the Conference League round of 16.
That was not the end of the young Lech player’s achievements. Just two days after the end of the season, he received the award for the best defender of the PKO BP Ekstraklasa season. It comes as no surprise, then, that the 2007-born defender continues to enjoy Niels Frederiksen's full confidence ahead of the upcoming season. The Danish coach has named him in the starting line-up for every match so far, and Mońka has not missed a single minute of action.
On Tuesday, another important moment arrived in the Academy graduate’s career, as he signed a new contract with his home club. Under the terms of the deal, he will remain at Lech until the end of June 2030.
"I feel very appreciated by the club to be signing this new contract. The last two years, since I joined the first team, have gone by incredibly quickly and so much has changed. This contract puts a stamp on that period. I’m going into this new season with a slightly different mindset, because I’ve had the opportunity to be in the starting XI from the very beginning. I’m becoming a fully-fledged member of the team, and I’m delighted that the club has made this decision. I’m very happy about it," says Wojciech Mońka.
"As for our goals, we want to win the Polish Championship for the third consecutive time - something that has never happened in Lech’s history. That’s what we want to achieve. The Polish Cup is always a target as well, and then there’s Europe, where we’ll have the opportunity to face some strong teams. Individually, if I were to earn a call-up to the senior national team and make my debut, that would be fantastic. But I’m not looking too far ahead; I’m focused on what’s happening here and now. If I continue working as I have done so far, that opportunity will come naturally," says the player, who joined Lech's Academy at the age of ten.
