Lech Poznań added a new figure to their squad. On Friday afternoon, the 27-year-old midfielder Stjepan Lončar joined Lech from Ferencvárosi TC. The Bosnian player signed a one-year contract with Lech, with the option of an extension for another 12 months.
Lončar arrived in Poznań on Thursday night and underwent medical tests the following day. Having been given the green light from the medical team, the Bosnian midfielder signed a one-year contract with Lech Poznań.
“We brought Stjepan Lončar [to Lech]; he signed a 1+1 contract. He is joining us from Ferencváros Budapest and after the loan, we have the option to extend the agreement for another 12 months. Friday is the last day of the transfer window hence this is our last signing. We have a complete squad, ready to fight for trophies,” said Tomasz Rząsa, Lech’s Sporting Director. “Our new player is a central midfielder with plenty of experience and we are hoping that he will reinforce the internal rivalry. He has a lot of trophies in his account; he was loaned from Hungary to Belgium and Kazakhstan where he quickly adapted and got good numbers, also in the offense. In the past season, he scored 6 goals and got 6 assists.”
The 27-year-old made his debut in senior football whilst playing for his home club – the Bosnian side NK Široki Brijeg with which he won the national cup. Then Lončar moved to Rijeka (Croatia) where he accumulated 100 appearances and won two cups. In 2021, he moved to Ferencvárosi TC on a permanent transfer and continued winning trophies – two Hungarian Championship titles and one national cup. In the meantime, he spent time on loan at Kortrijk (Belgium) and Astana (Kazakhstan). Lončar returned to Hungary in spring 2024, scored 5 goals, and assisted his teammates 4 times. In addition, the central midfielder has made regular appearances in the Bosnian junior and youth national teams before making a debut in the senior squad in 2018. Since then, he played for his country 11 times.
“I am happy to be joining the Lech Poznań family. I heard that the club has brilliant fans who support the team loudly and I cannot wait to play here. I am joining one of the biggest Polish clubs which is aiming for trophies. And I want to help. I am a central midfielder who can play as a number 6 and a number 8. I can describe myself as a “box to box” player, that is someone who is running from one penalty area to the other,” explained Lech’s last signing of summer 2024.
The Bosnian player will wear number 33 on his back.
