Lech Poznań is going through an intense period. Niels Frederiksen’s squad played a Champions League qualifier against Red Star Belgrade on Tuesday, and on Saturday, they faced Korona Kielce in the PKO BP Ekstraklasa. The league clash ended in a 1:1 draw.
The hosts dominated the first fifteen minutes of the match. Lech showed no signs of fatigue from the recent weeks and controlled their opponent. However, coach Niels Frederiksen's team couldn't capitalise on their advantage, and over time, Korona began to push back. In the 20th minute, Wiktor Długosz took advantage of Michał Gurgul’s mistake and lobbed the ball over Bartosz Mrozek. However, the VAR review revealed an offside and the goal was disallowed.
The team from Kielce primarily sought opportunities through long-distance shots, but their attempts were off target. In the extra time, the hosts had a chance to take the lead. Kornel Lisman found himself in a great goal-scoring position, but Xavier Dziekoński managed to save his shot.
Lech kicked off the second half at a higher pace and quickly managed to put the ball in the net. However, Luis Palma used his hand to control the ball, and after another VAR review, the referee once again disallowed the goal. Shortly after the hour mark, Korona unexpectedly took the lead. Mateusz Skrzypczak lost the ball to Dawid Błanik, who made no mistake in a one-on-one clash with Mrozek.
Niels Frederiksen’s team struggled for a long time to find a way past the opponent’s defence line, but they finally managed to do so in the closing minutes of the match. Palma received a precise cross from Mikael Ishak and converted it into an equaliser, thus securing one league point for Lech.
