Lech Poznań sealed their place in the fourth qualifying round of the Europa League in an impressive fashion. Niels Frederiksen's squad beat KÍ Klaksvík 5:0 in the Faroe Islands and will now face FC Thun in the playoffs.
Lech went into the second leg with a one-goal advantage, which they secured in the clash at Bułgarska Street thanks to Yannick Agnero's goal in the 81st minute. Niels Frederiksen’s side arrived in the Faroe Islands later than planned due to difficult weather conditions, which forced the match to be postponed by a day.
The hosts wanted to make a fast start, attacking as early as the sixth minute, but Joel Pereira blocked Hansson’s effort. The guests responded moments later, although Klaksvík's goalkeeper comfortably stopped Pablo Rodríguez’s shot. Lech continued to threaten in the following minutes, but neither Patrik Wålemark’s effort nor another attempt from his Spanish teammate found the back of the net. The deadlock was finally broken in the 20th minute, when Mikael Ishak and Allahyar Sayyadmanesh joined forces to put Lech ahead. The Iranian found himself in the right place at the right time to follow up the Swede’s effort, which Jensen had managed to save. However, the goalkeeper had no chance with the 25-year-old winger’s attempt. Before halftime, Luis Palma tried to increase Lech’s lead, but his effort flew over the crossbar.
In the 49th minute, Sayyadmanesh won possession inside the penalty area, allowing Rodríguez to get to the ball once again and fire a powerful shot under the crossbar.
Immediately after the break, Klaksvík launched a dangerous attack, which ended with a shot, but one that was off target. Luis Palma, Daniel Håkans and Sayyadmanesh also tried changing the score, but none of them was able to find the net. In the 74th minute, Wålemark delivered a cross into the penalty area and Antoni Kozubal found the back of the net to make it 3:0. Shortly before the end of normal time, the hosts managed to beat Lech’s defence and put the ball in the net, but the assistant referee immediately raised his flag, signalling offside. In the 88th minute, Håkans received a pass from Wålemark, found himself one-on-one with the keeper and calmly finished to extend Lech’s advantage. Just before the final whistle, the latter added a fifth goal with a long-range strike, sealing an impressive victory.
Lech will now face their final test on the road to the Europa League league phase. In the fourth qualifying round, they will face FC Thun. The first leg will be played on August 20th, at 7:00 PM, at Bułgarska Street.
