Another homegrown player returns to Lech Poznań! On Tuesday evening, Robert Gumny signed a contract with the Polish Champions, which will be valid until June 30, 2027, with an option of extension by another 12 months. Guma, welcome home!
The second homegrown player returns to Bułgarska Street this summer. After Mateusz Skrzypczak, Robert Gumny has now rejoined his home club. The defensive player spent the last five seasons playing for the German side FC Augsburg, where he appeared in 101 Bundesliga matches.
"We are delighted to officially welcome Robert Gumny back to our squad. He has signed a contract valid until June 30, 2027, with an option to extend the agreement for another 12 months. We’ve said many times when parting with our academy players that this is their home and they will always be welcome here. Last week, we gave Robert the chance to train with us during the pre-season camp in Wronki. From day one, he looked fantastic, as if he had never left our squad. We quickly recognised the mutual interest and reached an agreement. Robert brings valuable experience from one of the top 5 leagues, strengthens our competition among right-backs, and can also play in other positions, if needed," highlighted Lech’s Sporting Director, Tomasz Rząsa.
Gumny first wore the blue and white shirt back in 2009. He played for Lech’s youth teams and made his debut with the A squad in March 2016. From then on, he appeared in 97 official matches for Lech’s senior team, including 84 in the PKO BP Ekstraklasa. In early September 2020, he made a permanent transfer to German club FC Augsburg. Now, he returns home.
"I feel excited. After five years, I’m coming back to Poland, to my hometown where I was born, and to my club, where my football career began. I haven’t felt butterflies like this in a long time—ever since I found out there was a chance to return to Lech. I had received offers from other countries, but after spending five years in Germany, I wanted to return home. I can’t wait for the season to start and to wear Lech’s shirt once again," emphasised Gumny.
Robert has six caps for the Polish national team so far. At Lech, he will wear number 20.
