Lech Poznań midfielder Gisli Thordarson played the full 90 minutes for the Iceland U21 national team. It was a very successful game for his side, as not only did they win 6:2, but he also captained his team and provided an assist for the opening goal.
The match between the Iceland and Estonia youth teams was scheduled to kick off at 5:00 PM, but the first whistle was delayed by 30 minutes because of the snow that needed to be cleared from the pitch. The hosts focused on the attack from the very start and took the lead after just 120 seconds. Thordarson, who plays for Lech, was involved in the goal, as he provided the assist to Daniel Gudjohnsen. In the end, Iceland won the match 6:2 and now sit second in Group C, meaning they still have a chance to qualify for the UEFA European U-21 Championship.
Iceland's next opponent is France, who are top of the table. On March 30th, Thordarson will have the opportunity to improve his international record. So far, Lech's midfielder has made five appearances for the national side.
