Lech Poznań - Legia Warsaw 1:2

Lech Poznań kicked off the 2025/2026 season with the Polish Super Cup. Niels Frederiksen’s squad welcomed Legia Warsaw to Enea Stadium but ultimately failed to grab a win in front of the Poznań fans. The team from the capital won 2:1 and celebrated winning the trophy.

Lech’s pre-season preparation period lasted only three weeks. Niels Frederiksen’s squad prepared for the 2025/2026 season in Wronki, where they played friendlies against Chrobry Głogów (2:1) and Baník Ostrava (1:2). The team from Poznań had to face Legia with a weakened squad - Radosław Murawski, Daniel Håkans, Patrik Walemark, Bartłomiej Barański, and Gísli Þórðarson were all unavailable due to injuries. On the bench, however, was Leo Bengtsson, who had joined Kolejorz just a few days earlier.

From the start, Legia was more active in the offence and held onto the ball for longer periods. The guests closed down the midfield space, forcing Lech to build their offensive attempts mainly through the wings. Legia was especially dangerous in the first half and broke the deadlock after half an hour of play – it was Paweł Wszołek who converted a cross from Patryk Kun into a precise header, which was unstoppable for Bartosz Mrozek. The team from the capital didn’t slow down and scored a second goal before halftime. Ilija Shkuryn received a long pass from Juergen Elitim and lobbed the ball over Lech’s goalkeeper.

After the break, the hosts displayed more aggression in the offence. They posed a threat with corner kicks, which resulted in two good headers from Antonio Milić - one hit the crossbar, and the other was saved by Kacper Tobiasz. The visiting goalkeeper, however, had no chance against Filip Szymczak’s shot, which changed the score to 2:1. Unfortunately for Lech, it was only a consolation; they couldn’t find an equaliser and ultimately had to accept defeat.
