Widzew Łódź - Lech Poznań 2:1

Lech travelled to Łódź in search of their eleventh league victory this season. However, the match against Widzew did not go according to plan for Niels Frederiksen’s side as they lost 1:2.

Coach Frederiksen decided to introduce several surprises in the starting line-up due to an intense match schedule. Among those who started from the first minute were Gísli Thórðarson, Timothy Ouma, and Taofeek Ismaheel. There were also notable changes in the hosts’ camp, as Aleksandar Vuković had become Widzew’s new manager. The clash with Lech was the Serbian coach’s official debut.

In the opening minutes, Widzew tried to impose their style of play on the opponent. However, the hosts’ early pressure soon faded, and the guests gradually regained control of the match. Lech confirmed their advantage with a goal. Ouma delivered an excellent through ball into the penalty area to Thórðarson, who struck powerfully under the crossbar to open the scoring. Lech’s joy did not last long, though. Widzew’s players exploited Lech's mistake in the build-up play, and Fran Álvarez finished the counter-attack to level the score.

After the break, Widzew took the lead quite quickly. A cross from Sebastian Bergier deflected off Mateusz Skrzypczak and reached Emil Kornvig. The Dane beat Bartosz Mrozek with a powerful strike from outside the penalty area. The goal spurred Lech on, and they pushed forward in search of an equaliser. The guests found the net for a second time not long after, but Leo Bengtsson’s goal was offside. However, Frederiksen’s side didn’t give up and kept pressing - Ali Gholizadeh narrowly missed the post with a shot, and in stoppage time, Veljko Ilić superbly saved Skrzypczak's header. As a result, Widzew secured a 2:1 victory and added three league points to their account.
