Filip Szymczak is leaving Lech Poznań after 13 years. The homegrown player has joined Zagłębie Lubin on a permanent transfer.
Born in Poznań, Szymczak joined Lech's Academy in 2013, at the age of 11. He progressed through the club's youth ranks before being promoted to the first-team squad towards the end of the 2018/19 season. Despite his young age, the striker was quickly given opportunities at senior level and, in search of valuable first-team experience, spent time on loan at GKS Katowice, who were then competing in the second tier.
He later returned to Poznań and, under head coach John van den Brom, impressed on the European stage whilst Lech reached the quarter-finals of the UEFA Europa Conference League.
In the following seasons, Szymczak continued to compete for a place in the starting lineup and had a second loan spell with GKS Katowice, which was already in the top flight. Last season, he spent the campaign on loan at Royal Charleroi, making 19 league appearances.
On Tuesday afternoon, the Poznań-born forward completed a permanent move to Zagłębie Lubin, who finished seventh in PKO BP Ekstraklasa last season.
Everyone at Lech Poznań would like to thank Filip for his 13 years of commitment to the club. We wish him success in the next stage of his career, along with good health and plenty of goals. All the best, Filip, and see you again on the football pitch soon!
