RB Leipzig wins Enea Lech Cup
On Sunday, the final of this year’s Enea Lech Cup took place in the University Hall of Adam Mickiewicz. RB Leipzig triumphed in the 2019 edition of the tournament having beaten KRC Genk 6:2 in the final. Lech’s youngsters were ranked 3rd.
The second day of the tournament kicked off at 9 am sharp. The fans gathered at the university sports hall witnessed 12 exhilarating games divided into two groups – Champions League and Europa League – and then another 4 final clashes.
For a couple of teams, the group phase was decisive. Chelsea performed way better on Sunday than they did the day before and after grabbing two wins, they were given the chance to fight for the fifth place. Before the best two teams could face each other in the final, Slavia Prague and Southampton played against each other. The Czech players triumphed 4:1 which meant that they were officially ranked on the pre-last position.
Meanwhile, the team from London managed to beat their opponent 5:2 in the fight for the 5th place despite losing 0:2 at halftime. Finally, the long-awaited clash between Lech and Sporting CP took place. The hosts beat their Portuguese rival 1:0 and finished the tournament on the 3rd rank.
In the final game of the competition, RB Leipzig – a team that only lost a single game that weekend, against Lech Poznan – was going to face Belgian KRC Genk. The German youngsters dominated since the opening minutes they managed to secure a 4:0 win by halftime. Despite Genk’s efforts to catch up in the second half, the final score was 6:2 for Leipzig.
