Lech Poznań have advanced to the quarter-finals of the Polish Cup. Niels Frederiksen’s squad has won 2:0 away to Piast Gliwice thanks to goals from Mikael Ishak and Yannick Agnero, and is now awaiting their next opponents in the competition.
It is a busy period for the side from Poznań, as Lech are essentially playing every three days across various competitions. Despite the intense schedule, Frederiksen’s players have found their rhythm and managed to defeat Radomiak and Lausanne-Sport. On Wednesday, the Poznań squad travelled to Gliwice, where they fought for a place in the next round of the Polish Cup.
The first half of the match belonged to the hosts. Piast came out bold and offence-oriented, creating numerous goal-scoring chances. Each time, Bartosz Mrozek rose to the occasion, producing several important saves. Lech survived the difficult spell and just before the break took the lead. Joel Pereira crossed the ball right onto Mikael Ishak’s head, and the captain beat Frantisek Plach with a precise finish.
That goal brought calm to the guests, who were then able to control the game. It was clear that the first half had taken a toll on the Gliwice players, whose intensity dropped after the break. Lech, meanwhile, managed to deliver a second blow. Taofeek Ismaheel played Leo Bengtsson through on goal; the latter squared it to Ishak, and the striker set up Yannick Agnero, who had only just come on. The young forward finished the team effort, sealing the 2:0 win.
