Lech Poznań - Pogoń Szczecin 3:2

In the 28th round of Lotto Ekstraklasa, Lech Poznan beat Pogon Szczecin at home 3:2. Jozwiak (twice) and Vujadinovic scored for the hosts.

Lech was the first team to create scoring chances on Wednesday evening. In the opening minutes, Gytkjaer got a perfect opportunity to place the ball in the net when he came one-on-one with the keeper, but Zaluska stopped the Danish striker successfully. Pogon responded with Guarrotxena’s header that was slightly off target. The same player attempted to surprise Lech’s keeper shortly afterwards, but Buric managed to stop the ball in time.

In the 20th minute, Lech came close to scoring when Klups, who was positioned in the penalty box, received a great pass from Jevtic, however, his shot flew above the crossbar. Finally, 5 minutes later, Lech took the lead. Jevtic was once again the author of the last pass, but this time it was Jozwiak that converted it into a precise, flat shot.

Pogon was determined to equalize quickly, but Majewski’s technical shot missed the post by centimeters. The same player had another opportunity to score a moment later when Pogon was awarded a free kick, but this time he hit the side net of the goal. Before the referee announced halftime, the hosts changed the score once again. Jevtic converted a corner kick into a beautiful and precise pass to Vujadinovic who redirected the ball into the back of the net with a header.

The beginning of the second half was dominated by the team from Szczecin. Buric was forced to intervene twice, following attempts from Delev and Stec. However, despite Pogon’s offensive efforts, it was Lech that scored again. Jozwiak fired a shot at the goal, the ball was accidentally redirected by one of the defenders and fell into the net. A couple of minutes later, Jevtic had the chance to make it 4:0, but his free kick was impressively saved by Pogon’s keeper.

In the next few minutes, the two teams struggled to take possession of the ball, therefore most of the play revolved around midfield. Lech remained in control of the game and effectively stopped Pogon from approaching their goal whilst waiting for opportunities to counterattack. One of Lech’s rapid offensive attempts was finished off by Jevtic, but his shot on target was saved by Zaluska.

10 minutes before the final whistle, Gytkjaer received a precise long ball that could have set the final score to 4:0, but this time the Danish striker wasn’t precise enough. A moment later, Pogon successfully pulled one goal back. Guarrotxena rushed into the box where Lech’s defenders were chaotically trying to stop Pogon’s players, and placed the ball in the back of the net with a flat shot. Shortly afterwards, Izumisawa changed the score to 3:2. The hosts successfully defended the score until the final whistle and collected all 3 points in their first match under the lead of the temporary coach Dariusz Zuraw.
