Lech Poznań, in their second home match of the Europa Conference League, faced Lausanne-Sport, and to keep their chances of advancing to the next stage alive, they needed to defeat the Swiss side. Niels Frederiksen’s squad achieved their goal, beating their opponents 2:0.
Lech had complicated their situation in the league phase of the Europa Conference League with defeats against Lincoln Red Imps and Rayo Vallecano. In the clash with Lausanne-Sport, Frederiksen’s team had to win to have a chance for a place in the play-off round. The Swiss side, however, was in a comfortable position, having collected seven points from the first three matchdays and was essentially already assured of playing in the spring phase of the competition.
Thursday’s match was rather chaotic. In the first half, both teams had their better and worse spells, but they failed to cause a real threat in the opponent’s box. That changed just before the break, when the guests created a few chances. The Lausanne-Sport players forced Bartosz Mrozek to demonstrate his skills, but each time he was well-positioned and managed to deal effectively with the shots from the Swiss side.
After the halftime, the guests clearly took control, pushing Frederiksen's players back into defence. The Swiss attempts either missed the target or were stopped by the ever-reliable Mrozek. A spark in Lech’s attacking play was provided by Taofeek Ismaheel, who turned out to be the hero of the night. First, the Nigerian finished off a team effort and put his side in front, and in the added time, he provided the assist for Yannick Agnero’s goal. Lech won 2:0, meaning they remain in the fight for a place in the next round of the Europa Conference League.
