Kędziora wins Ukrainian Championship

On Sunday, Lech’s homegrown player Tomasz Kędziora won his fifth Ukrainian trophy. This time, the defender triumphed in the most important national competition – the Ukrainian top division. After beating FC Inhulets Petrove 5:0 in the Ukrainian Premier League, Kędziora and his teammates celebrated winning the championship title.

The squad from Kyiv won the Ukrainian league for the first time in 5 years and already did it three rounds before the end of the season. Mircea Lucescu’s team has been performing extraordinarily this campaign and they left the competition behind as they chased their first league title in 5 years. Ever since the spring round has begun, Dynamo won 28 points in 10 matches which enabled the team from Kyiv to secure an advantage of 13 points over their main rival, Shakhtar Donetsk. On Sunday, Dynamo finally ended a series of championship titles that belonged to Shakhtar and won the Ukrainian Premier League for the 16th time in the club’s history. In addition, as a result, Tomasz Kędziora has now won all possible Ukrainian trophies.

“I have won a few trophies in Ukraine but there is still one that’s missing, the most important one. We are hoping to make it happen this season and it looks like we have a good shot at winning the league,” said Tomasz Kędziora back in February, in an interview for Lech’s website. Prior to this season, the defender won Ukrainian Cup once and the Super Cup three times, therefore, no wonder that completing the collection of trophies was important to Kędziora.

Dynamo Kyiv still has a chance to win a double. On May 13th, Kędziora and his teammates are going to face FC Zorya Luhansk in the final of the Ukrainian Cup. A second trophy this season would be a perfect highlight of this incredibly successful campaign. In the past few months, the team from Kyiv played in the Champions League group phase against the likes of Juventus and FC Barcelona, and advanced to the Europa League play-offs. Dynamo Kyiv went on to eliminate Club Brugge but failed to beat Villarreal and had to end their adventure on the international arena.

“I am thrilled but also proud. The Championship title is a reason to celebrate, especially since a majority of the players are Dynamo’s homegrown footballers. I am proud of my teammates, my friends. It’s a big moment for us,” emphasised Kędziora after the Sunday match in an interview for Dynamo’s website.

The right-back is Lech’s homegrown player. He represented the team from Poznań in the years 2010-2017. In 2015, he won the Polish Championship title and then triumphed in Polish Super Cup twice, in 2015 and 2016. In total, Kędziora played in 151 matches for Lech Poznań, scored 10 goals and got 12 assists. Lech would like to congratulate Kędziora on this great achievement and wish him the best of luck going forward!
