Kacharava underwent surgical procedure
On Thursday morning, Lech’s forward Nika Kacharava underwent an ankle medical treatment. “He will be out for about three months,” said Professor Krzysztof Pawlaczyk, Head of Medical Staff.
The Georgian striker suffered an injury on December 3rd in the away Europa League clash with Benfica (0:4). In the first half, Kacharava was fouled brutally by Nicolas Otamendi and had to be carried off the pitch and replaced by Mikael Ishak. An immediate diagnosis correctly determined it was an ankle injury. On his way back to Poland, Nika required backslab and crutches to be able to walk.
Initially, the doctors predicted that the striker would be back in about six weeks. The footballer began intense recovery, however, there turned out to be another problem – a hematoma which was a result of the foul and which wouldn’t fade away throughout the rehabilitation. “There was no way to remove the hematoma other than a surgical procedure, hence at the beginning of January, we decided to proceed with the treatment which took place this morning. Nika will have to pause for about three months,” explained Professor Pawlaczyk. “Therefore, Kacharava will not be available to the coaching staff until the end of the season.”
However, another striker – Filip Szymczak – is ready to train again. The young Academy player recovered from health issues and is fit to join the rest of the squad. Therefore, Szymczak is going to travel to Turkey for the training camp.
