Gumny’s surgery successful
On Monday evening, Robert Gumny underwent knee surgery. “The whole procedure took about two hours and we experienced no complications at all,” explained Professor Tomasz Piontek who led the teams of doctors that operated on the young defender. The recovery is estimated to last 6 months.
The surgery took place in Rehasport clinic where a world-renowned knee specialist, Professor Tomasz Piontek, led the surgery on Gumny.
“We filled in the missing bits of knee cartilage. To do that, we used collagen membrane and bone marrow stem cells,” said Piontek.
For the next 4 weeks, the defender’s knee joint will be gimped and Gumny will have to use crutches to move around. From then onwards, the recovery process will begin. “After that period, the youngster will stop using crutches and his work with physiotherapists will commence. He will be exercising frequently and within 3 to 4 months, he should be running again,” added the professor.
Gumny suffered a knee injury 10 days ago in the league clash with Piast Gliwice (3:0). For the following week after the game, he underwent plenty of medical consultations including visits to Rome and Zurich. Finally, in Switzerland, the decision has been made to operate in Rehasport clinic.
