Lech have been in poor form in the recent weeks - Niels Frederiksen’s team managed to win only one match over the past month. On Sunday, the Poznań squad failed to end the bad run, suffering a 3:1 defeat to Arka Gdynia.
Niels Frederiksen’s side had come close to securing a positive result in Madrid, but in their clash with Rayo Vallecano, they conceded a decisive goal in the extra time and lost 3:2. Lech didn’t have much time to dwell on that disappointment, as just three days later, they played a league match against Arka Gdynia.
The first half belonged entirely to the guests - Lech controlled the game and confirmed their dominance after just fifteen minutes. Luis Palma played a superb ball from deep to find Kornel Lisman in the box, and the latter cleverly set up Pablo Rodriguez, whose header from close range was impossible to stop for the keeper. In the following minutes, Lech continued to threaten Damian Węglarz’s goal, but Arka’s goalkeeper rose to the occasion each time, keeping Frederiksen’s squad.
After the break, one - or rather two - moments completely changed the course of the match. Timothy Ouma received two yellow cards within three minutes and was sent off early in the second half. Playing a man down caused Lech’s game to fall apart entirely, and it was Edu Espiau who proved to be the Polish Champions’ tormentor - the Spaniard completed a hat-trick within fifteen minutes, sealing a rather unexpected 3:1 victory for his side.
