Lechia Gdańsk - Lech Poznań 3:4
Lech Poznań travelled to Gdańsk - to face the local club Lechia - in excellent spirits. Just a few days earlier, Niels Frederiksen’s squad had won the first leg of the Champions League second qualifying round against Breidablik. The impressive 7:1 triumph essentially secured Lech’s advancement to the next phase of the qualifiers. As a result, the players from Poznań could fully focus on the clash with their next league opponent.
Coach Niels Frederiksen’s team started the match against Lechia quite well. Lech managed to create a few good scoring chances, but Szymon Weirauch performed well between the posts – so well that he even managed to stop the penalty taken by Mikael Ishak. The goalkeeper correctly guessed the Lech captain’s intentions and intervened successfully. That missed opportunity quickly came back to haunt the guests, as shortly afterwards, Tomas Bobcek capitalised on the chaos in Lech’s penalty area and scored the first goal of the match. The Slovak continued his momentum and scored again before halftime – he received a long ball from the midfield, outran Antonio Milić, and then effortlessly beat Bartosz Mrozek.
The current Polish Champions woke up after the break. Lech players quickly narrowed the gap thanks to a goal from Gísli Þórðarson, and shortly after, Filip Szymczak equalised. Niels Frederiksen’s side kept up the pressure, and the next two goals came from well-executed corner kicks, which were converted into shots on target by Mateusz Skrzypczak and Mikael Ishak. In the final moments, Lechia pulled one back with a header from Bobcek, who thus completed his hat-trick. Lech Poznań ultimately held on to their lead and secured their first league points of the 2025/2026 season.
