The Polish national U-21 team claimed another convincing victory in the European Championship qualifiers. The Poles crushed Sweden 6:0, with two Lech Poznań players - Antoni Kozubal and Michał Gurgul - playing the full 90 minutes. The former scored a brilliant goal that changed the score to 4:0, while the defender was the author of the last pass on the final goal.
Coach Jerzy Brzęczek’s team has started the qualification campaign for next year’s U-21 European Championship in great style. In September, Poland defeated North Macedonia 3:0 and Armenia 4:0, taking the top spot in their group. They will remain leaders after the October fixtures, having collected another six points. On Friday, the Polish U-21 side beat Montenegro 2:0, with one of the goals scored by Lech’s homegrown player Antoni Kozubal. The midfielder was once again a part of the starting lineup against Sweden, and both he and his club teammate Michał Gurgul played the full match.
The away game began perfectly for the Poles. In the 6th minute, Tomasz Pieńko opened the scoring sheet by converting a one-on-one situation into the first goal of the night. Shortly after, Oskar Pietuszewski was fouled in the box and Pieńko executed a penalty confidently. Poland kept attacking, and just before the break, Kacper Urbański turned the score to 3:0. After halftime, coach Jerzy Brzęczek’s side completely dominated, adding three more goals. Antoni Kozubal increased the lead with a brilliant volley, then Marcel Krajewski scored with a precise long-range shot, and in stoppage time, Pieńko completed his hat-trick after a superb through ball from Michał Gurgul.
After four rounds, Poland sits at the top of their qualifying group with maximum points.
