Lech Poznań - Warta Poznań 2:0
After four matches without a win in a row, Lech finally put an end to the series of poor performances. On Friday, Mariusz Rumak’s squad faced Warta Poznań at home – an opponent against whom Lech triumphed in the last seven matches – and won 2:0.
The hosts were the definite favourite despite the recent unsatisfactory results, although they knew that the Friday game wouldn’t be an easy one. Before the Friday clash, it was Warta Poznań who had better defensive statistics; meanwhile, Lech was amid a 450-minute goal drought. In the second half, Rumak’s players finally put an end to the long run without a goal, but they also had a few opportunities to do so in the first part of the match. Kristoffer Velde, Filip Szymczak, and Filip Marchwiński were causing problems for Warta’s defensive line. The first two played a key role in Lech’s first goal of the night – the Polish striker sent a good pass to his teammate and the Norwegian winger placed the ball in the back of the net with a confident shot. It was Velde’s 8th goal in the current season of PKO BP Ekstraklasa.
Lech didn’t slow down and not long later, they had the perfect chance to change the score to 2:0, however, Adriel Ba Loua’s precise shot was stopped by Jędrzej Grobelny. In the 80th minute, Velde found the back of the net for the second time after dribbling past Stavropoulos and firing a strong, precise shot at the goal. As a result, Lech added three important points to their league account and are now just two points behind the vice-leaders, Śląsk Wrocław.
